Every June 5, South Dakotans celebrate 605 Day. The unofficial “holiday” was dreamed up by the South Dakota Department of Tourism in 2016 as a way to engage residents and encourage them to share their pride for the state. South Dakota is one of only twelve states with a single area code (605), a number that has become synonymous with our culture, so choosing a date to show appreciation for this place we call home was a no-brainer: June 5 (6/05) it was!

The Black Hills’ most innovative movers and shakers will congregate in the Evergreen Media office for the second annual Startup Weekend in the area. Organizers Brian Rupert and Lindsay Frankenfeld sat down to give us the scoop.
What is it?
Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event over an entire weekend in which teams pitch and plan a business idea to present in front of a group of investors. And it isn’t all fun and games—about 10% of Startup Weekend ideas become actual businesses.

Since the early 1900’s, the American Advertising Federation (AAF) has been unifying the voice of advertising and connecting professionals across the nation.
In 2016, Evergreen Media entered into our local chapter’s American Advertising Awards — one of the industry’s largest creative competitions, attracting nearly 35,000 professional and student entries each year across the country. We walked away with a Silver for an external client project and knew we would be back.
This year, we are honored to announce Evergreen Media has won both a Gold and Silver ADDY for two client projects we’ve had the opportunity working on this past year.

Today, mermaids are best known as beloved figures like kind-hearted Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. But mermaids of lore weren’t friendly and kind, they were feared by sailors who believed that mermaids would either drown the crew after charming them or just make the ship crash by creating rough seas.
Evergreen Media decided to bring the mermaid superstition to life for Rapid City’s Raw Couture fashion show! Their two piece costume featured a top made out of a broken computer keyboard and a skirt made from paper; each of these materials are used in the day-to-day operations at Evergreen Media.
The Evergreen Media team lives by the saying “work hard, play hard”, as was evident at Evergreen’s 2017 Summer Kick Off Barbecue on Tuesday, June 20.
After the day’s work winded down at 5 p.m., employees’ families, friends, and clients all descended upon our modern downtown offices for some grillin’ and chillin’. Attendees were treated to grilled cooking, cold brews from our “beer-barrow”, games, and great conversation. Lawn chairs were arranged on our building’s patio area as guests ate, drank, and laughed. Partygoers played frisbee on the side of 4th Street and corn hole was popular near the side offices. Evergreen’s designer, Chris, drew some of his infamous chalk art to welcome attendees.
